[Herald Economy = Reporter Kim Sung-woo] Hyundai Motor Group is introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)–based music curation system across its business sites nationwide. The system plays music according to weather and spatial characteristics, aiming to improve work efficiency.

According to industry sources on the 16th, Hyundai Engineering signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with music curation service provider “Aplayz” on the 14th to implement the service at its managed sites. The plan covers all 255 Hyundai Motor Group sites under Hyundai Engineering’s management nationwide.

A Hyundai Engineering representative said, “Except for a few affiliates that lease buildings from other companies, Hyundai Engineering manages most of the buildings owned by Hyundai Motor Group,” adding, “The spaces where curated music will be played vary widely—from factory facilities to offices and rest areas.”

“Aplayz” is a startup that originated from Hyundai Motor Group’s in-house venture program. Using AI technology, it curates and plays music tailored to weather conditions, spatial characteristics, and user preferences. Once basic information about a space and its users’ tastes is entered, the AI automatically learns and refines its selections. The service has already been introduced at Hyundai Motor Group’s Yangjae headquarters, as well as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis showrooms, where it received positive feedback.

Bae Jung-jin, CEO of Aplayz, explained, “At Genesis showrooms, which are frequented by older customers, we played New Age and classical music, while in areas with younger visitors, K-pop and Korean music were dominant. Sales locations that experienced the system firsthand said customers enjoyed it, and office users appreciated how the music fit each situation naturally.”

Separately from the Hyundai Engineering partnership, the service will also be introduced at Hyundai Motor Group’s Namyang R&D Center and Hyundai Steel plants. The Namyang Center will apply the service to six design buildings next month, while Hyundai Steel will implement it in workspaces—including blast furnaces—during the third quarter of this year. Aplayz is currently conducting consulting work related to the rollout.

Based on testing at business sites, there is potential for the service to be integrated into completed vehicles under the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) system in the future. An Aplayz official commented, “While nothing concrete has been finalized, we are already conducting POC (Proof of Concept) discussions and internal incubation talks with Hyundai Motor Group.”
